Project Activities 2015-2016

 

The project consists of three phases:

 

  • - First phase - DESIGN: a data tool for internationalisation of HEIs and a training module in consultation with project partners and other local and national stakeholders.

  • - Second phase - TESTING: feasibility of the tool on a sample of HEIs in Europe

  • - Third phase- DISSEMINATION: promote the tool and the training module amongst HEIs and other stakeholders and improve final version of the tool.

 

 

First Phase - DESIGN

 

Stakeholder consultation workshop - Istanbul 

 

 

 

 

The first stakeholder consultation workshop took place in Istanbul on April 28, 2015.

Representatives from four Turkish public and private universities in different academic and administrative units and the international project partners gave feedback, ideas and further questions for enquiry on the topic of making decisions using internationalization data at HE institutions.

The presentations and group discussions allowed for a rich debate on good practices and challenges faced in each institution.The presentation used during the workshop can be downloaded here and you can also see the event program here.

Stakeholder Consultation Workshop - Barcelona

 

 

 

 

 

 

The second stakeholder consultation workshop took place on September 27, 2015 in Barcelona, Spain at the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona Bellaterra campus. Fourteen representatives from Spanish universities's international relations offices participated along with the project partners. The day included an introduction to the project and the first output (literature review about internationalization of HEIs and indicators), presentations from each of the project partners about their case study results and a discussion about:

 

  • - drivers for internationalization at the participant's institutions
  • - challenges in better data collection and analysis
  • - challenges in obtaining "buy-in" from senior management
  • - need for converge or alignment between data collection requests from government and internally

Second phase - TESTING

 

 

 

HEIDA Online questionnaire for European Higher Education Institutions

 

 

 

 

An online questionnaire was developed and rolled out across higher education institutions in Europe between January 15th and February 29th, 2016. The aim was to gain insights into the current practices of institutions in their use of internationalization data.

 

The online questionnaire was also a way of testing a "proxy" data sharing tool by asking respondents to select from a sample of 30 indicators of internationalization compiled from the IMPI project and the three partner university case studies and provide information about how they collect, analyse and use the data needed to compile these indicators.

 

Over 100 responses were received, mostly from Turkish and Slovenian institutions and from a variety of types of institution in terms of age, size, funding and other criteria. Stakeholder consultation workshop - Slovenia

 

 

 

 

 

 

On April 14th, 2016 HEIDA project partner International Schoo of Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) hosted over 30 participants from different higher education and research institutions from Slovenia who came to learn more about the HEIDA project and the broader topic of making decisions using data and evidence in an educational context.

 

The day-long event was opened with remarks from Dr. Srečko Natek, dean, International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) and Mag. Robert Marinek from the Erasmus+ national agency CMEPIUS in Slovenia. To see the event program click here.

 

Participants heard from project representatives from Koç University, ISSBS and Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona about their case studies. Koç University presented a "beta" version of the HEIDA data sharing tool and asked for feedback on how it could benefit participants as potential users. Overall, the beta version of the tool was considered a welcome development for international office representatives and some made useful suggestions regarding the terminology and items to include in the tool interface for administrators. Training Event at KU - Turkey

 

On October 7th, 2016 a group of staff from Koç University's Office of International Prorgrams and other administrative units participated in an internal training event on the use of the beta version of the HEIDA online tool and the online training module. It allowed for questions and suggestions on how to roll out the "live" version at Koç University based on their recent experience of implementing an online mobility and partnership management software tool. Further individual meetings with specific teams at each college at the university were also conducted during November 2016 to raise awareness of the online tool and how each college could use it to meet their needs. 

 

 

Project final conference and stakeholder event Turkey - Istanbul

On September 22-23, 2016 the project team delivered a conference to inform Turkish and international higher education representatives about the HEIDA project goals, activities and its main outputs, the online tool and training module.  More information about the project final conference including program, invited session speakers, pictures and other information click here.
